Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a member of MWLTC to attend adult coaching?
No, you do not need to be a club member to join our adult coaching sessions! Non-members are welcome to attend all group sessions, including Coaching, Coffee & Cake, Adult Improvers, Cardio Tennis, and tactical masterclasses. If you enjoy playing and want to join our social mix-ins or competitive teams, we can guide you through our affordable club membership options.
Where are the adult tennis sessions located?
All sessions take place on court at Market Weighton Tennis Club, located on Holme Road, Market Weighton (YO43 3EP). We welcome players from Market Weighton, Pocklington, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Sancton, North Cave, and surrounding East Yorkshire villages.
How do I book a session or course?
You can book your place online in advance via our secure booking portal. We offer single-session drop-in passes as well as discounted course blocks (such as our 4-week Thursday Night Tactics masterclass). Early booking is recommended as places per session are capped to maintain quality coach-to-player ratios.
Are sessions cancelled if it rains?
Our hard courts handle light rain very well, so sessions generally go ahead in damp conditions. In the event of extreme weather (heavy rain, ice, or severe wind) making courts unsafe, we will contact you via WhatsApp or SMS prior to the session start time to notify you of cancellation and issue a credit or refund.
Can I drop into single sessions of the Thursday Night Tactics course?
Yes! While you save money by booking the full 4-week Thursday Night Tactics course for £25 (£6.25/session), single-session drop-in passes are available for £7 per session. This lets you pick and choose specific tactical topics (such as Net Domination or Serving Patterns) if you can’t commit to all 4 weeks
I’m a complete beginner / haven’t played since school. Which session should I join?
Our Monday morning Coaching, Coffee & Cake (9:30am) and Saturday morning Cardio Tennis (8:30am) sessions are perfect entry points! They offer a welcoming, low-pressure environment focused on fun, basic technique, and fitness. If you have played a little tennis before or know basic scoring, our Monday evening Adult Improvers (6:15pm) session will help rebuild your consistency.
What if I don’t own a tennis racket?
Don’t worry at all! We provide high-quality adult tennis rackets free of charge at all group sessions. Simply turn up in comfortable sports gear, and we’ll supply the equipment.
What should I wear to adult tennis coaching?
We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate sportswear (such as a t-shirt, shorts, leggings, or tracksuit bottoms) and supportive athletic trainers or tennis shoes. Please bring a water bottle to keep hydrated during sessions.
What is Cardio Tennis and do I need to be good at tennis to take part?
Cardio Tennis is a fun, high-energy fitness session set to music that focuses on calorie burn, agility, and footwork rather than strict technical coaching. There is zero serving or formal scoring – just continuous movement, hitting balls, and having fun. It is suitable for all fitness levels and abilities, even if you’ve never played tennis before!
