At Market Weighton Lawn Tennis Club, community is at the heart of everything we do — both on and off the court.
Our charity initiatives aim to make a meaningful difference by supporting local causes, promoting inclusivity in sport, and creating opportunities for people of all ages to get involved.
Whether it’s fundraising events, outreach programmes, or partnerships with local organisations, we’re proud to serve our community through the power of tennis and teamwork.
We also support local schools by donating raffle prizes on an ad hoc basis, helping to raise funds for educational initiatives and community events.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Supporting Dove House – 2025
So far in 2025, Market Weighton Lawn Tennis Club has raised an incredible £2,092 for Dove House Hospice, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our members — thank you Judy, whose efforts have been truly inspiring. We’re proud to support Dove House and the compassionate care they provide to families across our region.
Supporting the MND Association – 2025
In 2025 Market Weighton Lawn Tennis Club raised £1,415 for the MND association from the ladies charity tennis tournament and raffle held in September. This is a cause particularly close to many of our members hearts as we lost one of our dearly loved members to this terrible disease this year.
MND affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time, there is a 1 in 300 risk of getting MND across a lifetime. MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. The MND Association has over 45 years of experience identifying and funding the most promising MND research. They are a leader in the funding and promotion of cutting-edge MND research, both within the UK and across the world.
Supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance – 2024
In 2024, Market Weighton Lawn Tennis Club raised £1,400 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, helping to fund their life-saving emergency response services across the region. We’re proud to support such a vital organisation and contribute to the incredible work they do every day.
Supporting Martin House – 2023
In 2023, Market Weighton Lawn Tennis Club proudly raised £1,700 for Martin House, a hospice providing essential care and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions. This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to making a positive impact beyond the court and supporting families in need across our region.
Focus on the Clubhouse Build – 2022
In 2022, our fundraising efforts were dedicated entirely to supporting the development of our new clubhouse — a vital project for the future of our club and community. As a result, we did not make any external donations that year, choosing instead to invest in improving our facilities for members and visitors alike.
Making a Difference in 2021
In 2021, our club proudly raised £1,600 in support of Dementia Friendly East Riding, helping to fund vital services for individuals and families affected by dementia in our local community. We also donated £100 to the Air Ambulance Service, recognising the incredible work they do in providing emergency care across the region. These contributions reflect our ongoing commitment to giving back and supporting causes that matter.
